Welcome to St. Michael's, Millbrook, Alabama |
Blessing of the Animals
Each October, many Episcopal churches across the country celebrate St. Francis of Assisi (c. 1181-1226) who, as the patron saint of animals, is universally recognized as a protector and lover of all creatures great and small.
|
Since 2006, people from the community have brought their pets - finned, feathered, hoofed, pawed or clawed -
to the annual St. Michael's Blessing of the Animals' ceremony.
Why do we ask God to bless creatures that do not have a conscious ability to worship?. According Reverend Mark Waldo,“It’s about recognizing and celebrating the
remarkable creative love that God has bestowed on the world, and honoring how God touches us through each of his creatures.”
